GLOSSARIES AND TRANSLATION MEMORIES
Smart, fast, efficient work!
Every industry and company has its own terminology. To ensure that the texts written by the client and translated by the translation service provider are of the highest quality, it is worth creating and updating terminology databases and glossaries containing vocabulary and phrases specific to a particular industry or company. You can imagine the confusion if different terms are used for the same concept in an original document. Terminology management helps ensure the efficiency and accuracy of the translation process. The arrangement of terms and the formulation of clear rules for their use ensure correctness and terminological consistency. This is particularly important for technical, medical, legal and financial texts, i.e. for areas where precision is essential.
A glossary is a list of approved, standardized terms in the source and target languages. The entries in the glossary specify the context and conditions of use of certain terms, include approved versions of the translation for each target language, and terms that should not be translated at all.
Another highly effective way to maintain consistency of terms and test style is translation memory. The translation software we use allows us to build a translation memory for each client as the translation progresses. Saving the text in a bilingual version allows – after receiving feedback from the client – to introduce appropriate corrections and to use the base thus prepared consistently for each subsequent order. This ensures consistency of vocabulary and content for all translations carried out for a client.
THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVANTAGES OF BOTH APPROACHES ARE:
- Save time
- They contribute to the uniformity of terminology and style of texts
- Simplify the editing and proofreading process
