Romanian language: translations

Who speaks Romanian?

Romanian belongs to the Indo-European language family, being part of the Romance language group. It is used by almost 24 million people in the world. The largest number of speakers is, of course, in Romania, but they can also be found in Moldova, Israel, Serbia and Ukraine. Much smaller communities of people who use Romanian are present in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Hungary, the USA and Canada.

History of the Romanian language

The Latin language, carried over by the Romans in the 2nd century AD, is the first Romanian language. It was mixed with the Dacian language. As a result of the overlapping of both languages, Romanian was slowly formed. The next stage of the Romanian language was largely influenced by their neighbours, the Slavs. It is estimated that at the beginning 50% of the words were borrowed from Slavic languages. At present they are approximately 15%. The Romanian language is largely descended from Old Bulgarian. The strong influence of the Slavic languages is justified not only by the neighbourhood, but above all by the common religion, which is Orthodox Christianity, and which in those days played an important cultural role. Interestingly, Romanian was written in Cyrillic until the end of the 19th century, and the first words were recorded in church documents written in a local variety of Church Slavonic. Modern literature was developed in Romanian by Mihai Eminescu, a Romanian poet, writer and journalist.

Using Romanian in business

Romanian is used in areas that are not popular business destinations. Of course, for companies planning to develop their business activities in Romania, this language can be very useful, although it does not play a significant role on the international stage.
