Slovenian: translations
Who speaks Slovenian?
Slovenian belongs to the group of South Slavic languages.
It is used by almost 2 million people. Slovene is the official language only in Slovenia. Slovenian is one of the official languages of the European Union. We can communicate in it in some regions of Italy, Croatia or Austria.
History of the Slovenian language
Slovene originated from the Proto-Slavic language.
The first written records preserved in the Slovene language are the Freising manuscripts. The literary language took shape in the second half of the 16th century, largely due to the activities of the Reformation and the Lutherans. The first Slovenian book was written by Bishop Primoz Trubar. Adam Bohorič was the first author to describe the grammar of the Slovene language, and Jurij Dalmatian was the first translator of the Bible into Slovene. Until 1918, in the territories now belonging to Slovenia, Slovene was the language of the lower social classes. During that time, German, which was the language of educated people, had a huge influence on the form of Slovene, which is why there are numerous Germanisms in modern Slovene.
Use of Slovenian in business
Slovene plays a business role only in business cooperation with Slovenia, which is not a popular business destination.
Since this language is practically not used outside this country in the international arena, its knowledge will not be of much use in business activities.
