Who speaks Georgian?

Georgian belongs to a small family of South Caucasian languages, representing at the same time its most important part. The Georgian language is not uniform, it consists of more than 18 dialects. More than 7.5 million people use Georgian worldwide. The only country where Georgian is an official language is Georgia. Outside of this country, it can be useful in Turkey and Russia, as well as in some regions of Iran. 

History of the Georgian language

The history of the Georgian language dates back to the 5th century AD. It is claimed that the first traces of the Georgian alphabet date back to the 3rd century BC. The Georgian language has a very rich, mainly liturgical literature. It is accepted that the history of the Georgian language is divided into two main periods: Old Georgian, from the 5th to the 11th century, and Modern Georgian, from the 12th century.

Use of Georgian in business
